Two demanding days of racing, preceded by Friday evening’s Super Test, marked the first Portuguese round of the season. The weekend got underway in the heart of Fafe, where riders tackled the opening special test in front of thousands of spectators. The artificial obstacles of the Super Test then gave way to the region’s more technical terrain, with the Enduro Test, Extreme Test and Cross Test providing a tough challenge throughout the weekend. Three demanding special tests put speed, consistency and technical skill to the ultimate test.
The Portuguese Grand Prix turned into a challenging weekend for Kyron Bacon. The Australian rider showed determination from the outset, taking part in Friday evening’s Super Test and lining up for the opening day of competition despite not feeling at his best. However, circumstances forced him to withdraw before completing Day 1. Returning to action on Sunday, Bacon immediately showed encouraging pace in the opening special tests. As the day wore on, the demanding conditions and soaring temperatures made the challenge even tougher, with Kyron ultimately securing eighth place in the Enduro2 class.
With the 100th edition of the International Six Days of Enduro fast approaching, six-time AMA National Enduro Champion Stewart Baylor joined MGR Racing Team for this important event. The American quickly adapted to his Kawasaki KX450X and showed strong pace throughout the weekend, delivering a consistent performance in the Enduro2 class. Building confidence with every test, Baylor went on to secure 15th place overall on Sunday, gaining valuable mileage and experience ahead of his upcoming international commitments.
Kyron Bacon:
"It wasn’t the weekend I was hoping for. I had to deal with a physical condition that affected my performance and forced me to retire on Saturday. On Sunday, I did my best and focused on gathering valuable information for the upcoming rounds. Now it’s time to look ahead and focus on the second Portuguese GP."
Enrico Garelli – Team Manager:
"This first Portuguese Grand Prix was particularly challenging. Kyron was not in the best condition, and that inevitably affected his weekend. On Sunday, he still showed great character and determination, posting promising times during the early stages of the race. Unfortunately, the heat and a physical condition that was still not ideal prevented him from showing his full potential."
