A good start and a superb race-long ride from Alcoba saw him fight inside the leading group behind runaway leader Can Öncü and then eventual race winner Stefano Manzi, after Jeremy had started from 11th place on the grid.
Sunday’s ambient temperatures had risen compared to the first raceday at the 4.411km long Magny Cours circuit. With a race setup on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636 that could truly compete for a podium position all race long, Alcoba made the very best of his opportunity to take fourth place.
Remarkably, Jeremy had never ridden at Magny Cours before this weekend, and yet went on to record his best result since joining this category of racing.
One podium rival crashed out of contention with around half of the race to go, leaving Alcoba third for a time, but starting to experience a drop in ultimate grip. He was chased, and eventually caught, by Tom Booth-Amos to spend several laps of the race in fourth place.
Pressurised from behind for some other riders in the final laps, Alcoba was composed and determined enough to keep fourth place - and he even closed in on Booth-Amos on the final lap.
At the end, Jeremy was only 0.272 seconds away from what would have been his first podium finish in this class of production-derived racing.
After Saturday’s eighth-place finish and today’s top-four ranking, Jeremy is seventh in the championship, with 128 points.
The next race weekend, Round Ten, will take place at the modern classic Motorland Aragon circuit, between 26-28 September.
Jeremy Alcoba stated: “I am super-happy because I fought until the last for a podium place. I was struggling from half-race distance when another rider crashed in front of me. I didn’t have the feeling and I struggled with the front and rear tyres. I knew in that moment I did not have the pace to be alone. I was on the limit, so for me it was better to ride behind someone. The rider in front of me took some metres out of me but in the last five laps I started to get some back. I tried to pass into the final corner but it was impossible. We were close to the podium so our potential is there. I will try to get there at the next race. Thank you to everyone and to the team for all their good work. See you all at my home race.”
