Sofuoglu’s dominance in practice was almost total, but he kept his best for qualifying, even though, as ever, all he focused on was ensuring he would start from somewhere on the front row for tomorrow’s 20-lap race.
With his latest pole position Kenan now has a total of 21, just one behind the absolute record. More than his single lap qualifying pace or the pole position, Sofuoglu was satisfied with his overall race pace, having made a very strong race simulation in the final free practice session this morning.
PJ Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) was sixth in qualifying, 0.729 seconds behind Sofuoglu. PJ will be out to take a podium against several fast local wildcards on Sunday, to maintain his current second place in the championship standings.
Marco Faccani (San Carlo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) fell in qualifying and set only two laps to head to 24th place on the grid. Christian Gamarino (GO Eleven Kawasaki) was 14th in qualifying with Adrian Wagner and Lucas Mahias (both Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) in 19th and 20th places respectively. Dominic Schmitter (Team Go Eleven Kawasaki) was 23rd in qualifying.
Kenan Sofuoglu: “A 1’29 was a good lap time but today my thought was not to take pole position. My thought was in the morning session, to find a good race pace in the final free practice. I already did a 1’30.0 then and the race pace was consistently in the 1’30s. I was really happy for that because in dry conditions we should have a very good advantage. But dry or wet tomorrow, I think we are ready. Everybody in the team did a good job.”
